Extrapolation: A Journal of Science Fiction and Fantasy 41 followers Extrapolation was founded in 1959 by Thomas D. Clareson and was initially published at the College of Wooster. In 1979 it moved to the Kent State University Press. A decade later, Clareson stepped down as editor and was succeeded by Donald M. Hassler of the KSU English Department. In 2002 the journal transferred to the University of Texas at Brownsville; in Brownsville, Texas. At that time Donald M. Hassler became executive editor, and the position of editor was filled by Javier A. Martinez of UTB's English Department. In 2007 Hassler retired and Martinez became Managing Editor, bringing in Andrew M. Butler, Michael Levy and Sherryl Vint as co-editors and Patricia Melzer as Reviews Editor. Extrapolation was the first journal to publish academic work on science fiction and fantasy and continues to be a leading, peer-reviewed, international journal in that specialized genre in the literature of popular culture. It invites papers on all areas of speculative culture, including print, film, television, comic books and video games, and particularly encourages papers which consider popular texts within their larger cultural context. The journal welcome papers from a wide variety of critical approaches including but not limited to literary criticism, utopian studies, genre criticism, feminist theory, critical race studies, queer theory, and postcolonial theory. It is are interested in promoting dialogue among scholars working within a number of traditions and in encouraging the serious study of popular culture. Extrapolation appears three times a year and subscriptions are available for institutions and individuals.
Science Fiction Studies 32 followers Science Fiction Studies is published three times a year (March, July, November) by SF-TH Inc. at DePauw University. The Science Fiction Studies Website publishes abstracts of all articles, as well as the full texts of all reviews, historical documents, and selected essays appearing in the journal since its founding in 1973 by R.D. Mullen. We normally maintain a one-year blackout before reviews are published in the journal appear on the website. Full texts of articles are posted as soon as an issue has been sold out.
New York Review of Science Fiction 12 followers The New York Review of Science Fiction was founded in 1988 by a group of people who were at that time the editorial staff of The Little Magazine. They included David G. Hartwell, the publisher of the magazine, who had been a founder of The Little Magazine (then known as The Quest, edited and published by Alexis Levitin) twenty-two years before, in 1965. Others were Samuel R. Delany, at whose Manhattan apartment meetings were held weekly, Kathryn Cramer, Patrick Nielsen Hayden, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, and Susan Palwick were the editorial board, and Tom Weber (who resigned at the first issue) and Greg Cox (his replacement, the first one not from The Little Magazine) were staff.
